Welcome to the Conservation section of the Environment and Planning website. Here, you can find information on the following:
Biodiversity - Cumbria County Council is committed to helping to deliver the Cumbria Biodiversity Action Plan and has developed its own Action Programme. The Environment Unit provides advice on nature conservation policy, impacts and enhancements from minerals, waste and County Council developments, the environmental roadside verge maintenance policy, support and guidance to county-wide biodiversity initiatives, and co-ordinates the management of two Local Nature Reserves.
Commons Registration - As a Commons Registration Authority under the Commons Registration Act of 1965, Cumbria County Council is responsible for maintaining the registers of Common Land and Town or Village Greens, covering the whole of Cumbria and including areas within the two National Parks.
Historic Environment - The Historic Environment Service provides advice relating to archaeology, historic buildings and historic landscape throughout the county outside of the National Parks. Its website includes information on dealing with historic environment issues through the planning process, using the county's publicly available Historic Environment Record and ways in which information can be obtained concerning archaeology, historic landscapes and buildings in Cumbria.
