An evening of celebration takes place in Maryport (Thurs 11th Sep) to mark the success of 14-19 education work in West Cumbria.
Cumbria County Council recently became the only shire county in England to gain national Beacon Status for its 14-19 education.
Much of this work was carried out in West Cumbria and contributed significantly to this prestigious award.
The celebration event, at the Wave Centre, will bring together a large number of local partners, including head teachers, principals, members of senior management teams, teachers, lecturers, training providers and employers.
Presentations will be made to young people who benefited from the 14-19 work.
More than two hundred people are expected to attend.
Valerie Hallard, 14-19 Development manager, West Cumbria, said:
"West Cumbria has a history of collaboration between schools, college and local businesses, but we are seeing a step-change in the ability and willingness to share expertise and offer the best and widest choices to every learner in the area. For example, partnership working means that training providers who work with local companies are now able to bring that expertise into schools, and equally students are able to benefit from getting involved in developments in some of West Cumbria’s world-class businesses"
The West Cumbria 14-19 partnership was formed to help young people become more enthusiastic about learning and to choose to succeed.
To do this, schools, colleges and training providers pool their expertise and facilities to offer a wider choice of learning to young people between the ages of 14-19.
This makes it possible for each young person to follow a pathway suited to them and will enable them to continue in learning beyond sixteen via sixth form, college or apprenticeship.
