Bighearted firefighters from Barrow could be hosing down your car this weekend as they raise money for charity.
On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September the charity car wash weekend at Barrow Fire Station takes place between 10am and 5pm on both days in aid of The Firefighters Charity.
The Bay radio team will be providing a live outside broadcast on Saturday and there will be free hot and cold drinks, a tombola, stalls, food and fire engines available while punters wait for their car to be washed for the price of a donation to the charity.
Also for the children there will be the opportunity to have a colour mounted photograph taken with Fireman Sam or Wellyphant for just £2.
Firefighters from the community fire safety department will be on hand to offer fire safety advice and take details to arrange a free fire home safety visit to fit a free ten year battery operated smoke alarm or clean and check your existing alarms.
Cllr Gary Strong, cabinet member with responsibility for Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, said: "For Cumbria's firefighters to take time out to raise money for charity says a lot about them. I hope that people will get down there with cars and have a nice family day to support a valuable charity that benefits all firefighters in the county."
Firefighter Mark Ducie, who has organised the event, said: "It’ll be a great day for everyone involved and it all for a good cause. You don’t have to have a dirty car to come along, but it certainly helps!"
The Fire Fighters Charity assists over 13,500 individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services and delivering a range of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.
Every 30 seconds in the UK, fire fighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties.
The charity has three centres across the country, in Cumbria, Devon and West Sussex.
