At 17:16 firefighters were called to Robins Wood, Carlisle, after a boy became stuck in a tree. Crews released the boy using small hand tools and a saw after his leg became stuck between two branches. He was then handed into the care of paramedics.

At 15:26 firefighters were called to building fire at Kimberley Clark in the staff canteen, on Park Road, Barrow-in-Furness. One fire engine from Barrow, one from Broughton and one from Ulverston attended the fire and crews used a main jet and a hose reel jet to put out the blaze. A large fan was used to ventilate the property. Crews were at the scene for just over an hour. Police also attended the incident.

At 06:32 firefighters were sent to the slip road of the M6 motorway at junction 43 southbound (by the Cattle Market at J43) where a tanker had over turned. Firefighters cooled the axel of the tanker with a hose reel jet. Police and Highways Agency attended.

At 09:54 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A689, Brampton, near to the roundabout for the A69. A car was on its roof and a female casualty was trapped inside the car. Fire crews from Brampton and Carlisle East fire stations got the female out of the vehicle and were on scene for around 30 minutes.

At 23:26 firefighters were called to a disused pub, the Derby Arms, on Ennderdale Road, Cleator Moor, after reports of a gas leak. The crew, from Frizington, ventilated the building so that engineers from the National Grid could access it to fix the leak.

The shed was well alight on arrival and crews used two ground monitors, one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus to put out the fire. Crews were at the scene for two and a half hours.

Crews found an overheated light fitting in the linen room. They used a hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to put out the fire.

At 14:10 firefighters were called to Mosside Garage, on Oubas Hill, Ulverston, after a diesel spill from a vehicle. Crews absorbed the spillage, which had come from a crack in a fuel tank of a small vehicle, using forecourt sand and waited for a recovery vehicle to arrive.

At 20:11 hours three fire engines attended a road traffic collision on Park Road, Armathwaite, Carlisle. The incident involved two vehicles. Firefighters used specialist equipment to extricate one man before handing him over to the care of awaiting ambulance staff. Crews were engaged at scene for approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

When crews arrived the bin was well alight and the heat from the bin was affecting a ground floor flat. At 16:57 firefighters were called to a caravan fire on the A689 Newby West, Carlisle. Three fire engines from Carlisle East, Carlisle West and Wigton and an aerial appliance from Carlisle East attended the incident which involved a derelict caravan which had spread to the roof of a two storey barn. Crews used two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a compressed air foam system to extinguish the flames. Crews were at the scene for several hours overnight.

At 11:31 firefighters were called to a large fire at a garage at Salthouse Mills Industrial Estate, Barrow-in-Furness. The industrial building was well alight on arrival. Five fire engines were sent to the area and used ground water monitors to fight the fire. Initially police are attended for traffic management and the public were advised to stay inside with their windows and doors shut if they lived near the area.
The buildings were apparently used as garages and firefighters cooled cylinders at the premises. Four ground water monitors, one hose reel and two main water jets were used to fight the fire at its height. The aerial ladder platform was also used as a water tower.
Crews remained at the scene overnight. The fire was contained to pockets and crews used hose reel jets to put out the fire. Environmental health was contacted about the incident.
The site was handed back to the owner at 20:33. Crews monitored the scene overnight for the second night and left the scene at 05:53.

At 15:02 firefighters were called to Citadel Railway Station to heavy smoke logging in a basement of a commercial property. The crews found a fire which was out on their arrival in the basement and used a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to check the area. The station was evacuated and no trains were permitted to stop at the train station while the incident was being dealt with, however trains were permitted to pass through the station without stopping.

At 14:36 firefighters were called to a fire involving a lorry which had spread to rubbish in a yard on Sandysike to Hornickhill Road, Sandysike, Longtown. The crews from Carlisle East and Carlisle West used two hose reels to put the fire out. A thermal imaging camera was used to check the area before crews left the scene.

At 16:47 firefighters were called to a large braken fire in Grizedale Forest, Ambleside, near to the Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre. Three crews from Ambleside, Whitehaven and Ulverston alongside two specialist wildfire units from Windermere and Grange and a wildfire Land Rover from Ambleside tackled the fire which covered approximately 2,000 square metres of woodland, which was located about one mile along the forest track from the Bogle Crag car park. Crews used a hose reel jet, two fire express hose reel units, five scottie back packs and beaters to contain and put out the fire. Crews left the scene at 22.21.

The vehicle was stabilised so firefighters could use their specialist cutting equipment to be able to extricate the casualty, a woman. She was then handed into the care of ambulance staff.

Grass along the back of a row of terraced hoses was on fire, which had spread onto a strip of grass onto the boundary fence of the railway track. Passing trains were also fanning the fire. Around 200 square metres of grass were involved. The trains were stopped while firefighters used two hose reel jets to bring the fire under control.

At 00:25 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Reservoir Road in Hutton, Kendal. The incident involved two cars. Oxygen therapy was given to one female casualty by firefighters. Police and Ambulance were requested to attend. Firefighters extinguished a fire, and then cooled the cars using water. Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus. A total of five casualties were assessed by paramedics. Two casualties were released, and three casualties were taken to hospital.

At 22:53 firefighters were sent to an incident where there was reports of a fire on Delhi Street in Barrow-in-Furness. On arrival the fire crew found that there had been a fire involving petrol. Two vehicles and a front door were damaged by the fire. One male casualty suffered burns, so the casualty was treated by firefighters. Paramedics and police attended this incident. Firefighters washed down the street and the pavement to clear the petrol.

At 16:57 firefighters were called to grass on fire near to a jetty in Phoenix Road, Barrow-in-Furness. The fire was extinguished with a hose reel. Another fire involving grass on wasteland, which was close by, was also extinguished with a hose reel.

At 22:23 firefighters were called to a chimney on fire in Oxen Park, Ulverston. The crew used chimney rods and small tools to extinguish the flames.

At 22:26 firefighters were called to a chimney on fire in Beck Road, Carlisle. The crew used tools and water to extinguish the fire. Embers were removed from the grate and put outside before the crew left.

ONGOING INCIDENT - Building fire in Maryport

ONGOING INCIDENT - at 13:30 firefighters were called to a report of bracken on fire on Glasson Industrial Estate. Eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform have been called to the scene which is, in fact, a building fire. The building, used for manufacturing synthetic turf, measures 40 metres x 50 metres and is heavily involved in fire. Firefighters are tackling the blaze using main jets. UPDATE 15:20 - Advice is for people who are downwind of the smoke plume to stay indoors and keep windows closed. This incident will be updated when more information is available. UPDATE 17:10 - Firefighters are continuing to tackle the blaze. This incident is expected to continue for some time. UPDATE 09:29 26 April - Firefighters have continued to fight the fire overnight. The area was sectorised with crews in breathing apparatus tackling the blaze in each sector. A foam jet was in use, along with main jets and ground monitors. UPDATE 15:53 Crews remain at the scene tackling deep seated pockets of fire. A jet, three ground monitors and a monitor from the aerial ladder platform is being used. A joint investigation with police is being carried out. UPDATE 11:05 27 April - Firefighters have been at the scene throughout a second night and are continuing to damp down the area using hose reel jets. UPDATE 17:00 Firefighters will remain at the scene overnight putting out any flare ups and hotspots.

At 19:27 firefighters were called to a report of a chimney fire on Moor Road. They found a fire in the flue which was put out using a water backpack.

At 20:40 firefighters were called to a grass fire on Whinbarrow Lane. Around 75 square metres of grass and gorse was well alight in what was possibly a controlled burning which had got out of control. Beaters and a hose reel jet were used to bring the blaze under control.

Road traffic collision on the M6

At 13:53 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving two heavy goods vehicles with one man trapped on the M6 north between junctions 40 and 41. The crew released the man from one of the vehicles and handed him to the care of paramedics.

At 15:33 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the M6 south between junctions 44 and 43. The incident involved a heavy goods vehicle which had left the motorway and was on its side down an embankment. One man was trapped and needed the help of the crew to get out. Specialist tools were used to remove the windscreen and get the man out and the crew used a first aid kit on the casualty.

At 15:55 firefighters were called to two outbuildings on fire in Peel Street, Carlisle. The crew used two hose reels and specialist equipment at the incident. A fire investigation into the cause of the fire will take place and police attended.

At 17:20 firefighters were called to a report of a grass fire on Vulcan Road. Around two hundred square metres of bushes and grass was well alight. Crews used beaters and a hose reel jet to tackle the blaze and were at the scene for around two hours and ten minutes.

At 18:43 firefighters were called to gorse bushes on fire on Cavendish Dock Road. Two hose reel jets were used to put out the fire.

Disused building fire in Wigton

At 18:54 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform attended a fire in a disused building on Arms Yard market place. Firefighters, four in breathing apparatus, used two hose reel jets and a main jet to tackle the blaze. The area was thoroughly checked using thermal imaging cameras to make sure there were no hot spots. They were at the scene for just over four and a half hours.

At 19:05 firefighters were called to a second fire involving gorse bushes at a different location on Cavendish Dock Road. Three hose reel jets were used to put out the fire.
