Transfer to Junior School in Cumbria in September 2009

When do children transfer to junior school?

Children attending an infant school transfer to junior school the September following their seventh birthday.


Which children will transfer to junior school in September 2009?

Children born between 01 September 2001 and 31 August 2002 will transfer to junior school in September 2009.  Alternatively, parents may apply for a Year 3 place in a primary school.

The closing date for applications is 07 November 2008.  This closing date is very important.  Don't let your child miss out by applying late.


What do I need to do before I apply for a place?

Before you apply for a Year 3 place it is important to read the information provided by the Local Authority.

An information booklet 'Transfer to Junior School in Cumbria' is available from local infant schools and Children's Services offices.  This booklet contains an application form and important information about the application and allocation processes.  It also contains advice about school transport policy.  It is very important to read the information regarding school transport policy, if school transport entitlement would affect your choice of school.  Other useful information is also included.

How do I apply for a September 2009 Year 3 place at a junior [or primary] school in Cumbria?

Remember that the closing date is 07 November 2008.  This deadline is very important.
