Paid Research

Paying for research in our archives

Please note that we no longer operate a full Historical Research Service

Our staff are pleased to advise enquirers who are unable to visit our Archive Centres about the records and other resources we hold.  We are able to do specific look-ups and searches of records within our custody. We can do one specific search of not more than 10 minutes duration per customer free-of-charge. We can also do longer searches and provide copies according to the charges given on our Copying Services webpage.

Our staff will be happy to advise if they can carry out search requests but this will vary on a case by case basis and we cannot guarantee to undertake extended research/family history enquiries, or enquiries on sources not held in our Archive Centres.

For more extended research, enquirers may wish to contact a private records researcher to undertake work for a fee on their behalf. We provide the following list of freelance researchers who will carry out research in the Cumbria area. This list is not a recommendation by Cumbria Archive Service and enquirers should make their own arrangements with these private researchers. Cumbria Archive Service neither guarantees the quality nor can be held responsible for any work undertaken by these private researchers.
