The Mental Capacity Act is a new law which comes into force in 2007. It will cover where people aged 16 and over may lack capacity to make certain decisions. It also allows for people to plan ahead if they think they may lack capacity in the future.

In Cumbria, the Mental Capacity Act is being implemented on a multi-agency basis. The key agencies are working together to make sure the Act and its code of practice is implemented fully. The implementation is overseen by a Cumbria Mental Capacity Act Implementation Group.
